12/28/2023Job Summary SUMMARYEntry level technical position at the water treatment plant.
Serves as an operator in the treatment plant doing related work, on demand, under the general supervision of a licensed operator.
Job Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Controls and monitors the water supply and quality via computer display.
Uses computer to turn on/off pumps and wells as necessary.
Checks chemicals, performs general housekeeping work around the pumps and the buildings; oils and lubricates pumps as necessary.
Change chlorine cylinders as necessary.
Learns and performs basic laboratory tests, receives supplies, takes water samples and deliveries for analysis; corrects any problems with chemical feed at water pumping stations.
Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver's license.
Must attain a Maryland Department of the Environment Class IV Water Treatment Operator license within 48 months.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to react quickly to emergency signals and hear when machines are not functioning properly.
Must be mentally alert.
Supplemental Information LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
